What is a prototype?
It is a first try or a first edition of your invention. If can be made by hand. It can be in miniature, or as a scale model. Or, it can be professionally made.
Why make a prototype?
To attract investors, impress customers, and impress retailers!
How do I get one made?
It depends very much on the invention. Talk to us for advice, we have so much experience! We try to recommend ways you can make a prototype yourself. If professional assistance is necessary, we can recommend low cost ways to get such assistance.
Any examples?
Sure! In one example, an inventor went to a place that designs prototypes, and would have been charged $8,000. It turned out he could have the prototype designed and made by a carpenter for less than $500. In another example, the inventor needed to produce a molded article, and a design company wanted $12,000, but it turned out he could make it himself using materials from a craft store for $30.
What if I want a production model as my prototype?
You probably don’t need that yet. But, if you really do, there are low cost ways of getting a professionally made production model at a fraction of the cost of design companies.
